Beaches

There are plenty of things to do and see during a beach summer vacation this year in Myrtle Beach, but you’ll no doubt find yourself on the sand nearly every day. Take a walk or run for some exercise along the shore, sunbathe, or pack a picnic for an all-day stay on the sand. Depending on when you take your summer break, the waters of the Atlantic may still be a bit chilly for a swim. Despite any chilly swimming, anglers of the group can cast a line to see what’s biting. You may even decide to up the adrenaline with jet skis or parasailing!

Boardwalk & Promenade

The 1.2-mile boardwalk is a beautiful oceanfront boardwalk in Myrtle Beach that offers access to breathtaking beachfront as well as many of the activities and attractions the town is known for. Ride the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, then experience the carnival atmosphere, restaurants, shops, bars, and more. City officials describe the promenade as a “meandering oceanfront park” and a relaxing place with benches and landscaping for a serene environment.

Grand Strand

Myrtle Beach is just a small part, albeit the largest city, of the over 60 miles of beach included in South Carolina’s “Grand Strand.” The area stretches from Little River to Winyah Bay, with the main town being Myrtle Beach. Visitors looking to see a little more of the NE South Carolina coast, a tour up and down the strand is the must-do way to get it done.

Hollywood Wax Museum

Some people dream of getting up close to their favorite celebrity. While it may not be them “in the flesh” the model will leave you doing a double take! Tour the museum where you can get close to some of your favorite icons. Take silly selfies posed next to entertainers, race car drivers, actors, politicians, and other celebs. Learn more about them, like their pet-peeves, accomplishments, pets, families, and other personal details.

Myrtle Beach Pinball Museum

Tell the kids you’re going to a museum during your summer vacation and the light of anticipation will quickly disappear from their eyes. Summer is a welcome break for them to release the stress of school, tests, and all the rest, so they may not look favorably on an educational activity during the break. Go on to tell them it’s a museum dedicated to pinball and watch the light reappear. The “museum” has machines from as early as the 1970s all the way up to present day. Purchase tickets for a specific day and time on their website.

Ripley’s Aquarium and Odditorium

Robert Ripley is a famed and accomplished traveler who saw some weird, wacky, and wonderful things as he traveled the world. Make a visit to his “odditorium” full of those weird and wonderful discoveries part of your summer plans.

You’ll also want to make sure to add in a visit to the nearby aquarium, too. You’ll get glimpses of a variety of marine life from around the world, like piranhas, poison dart frogs, rays, penguins, and more. You can even get up close and personal with certain species.

SkyWheel

Climb over 20 stories above the waves of the Atlantic without taking a single step yourself! Take a seat in one of the Ferris wheel’s 42 climate-controlled gondolas – a welcome relief from the summer heat, then prepare for as close to a bird’s eye view of the area as possible. The wheel is open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily.

Springmaid Pier

The pier is located within the Doubletree Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort, but the public is welcome. It is as the longest pier in Myrtle Beach, at 1,060 feet. Anglers will want to see what’s biting, after making a supply stop for all they need at the pier store, Fishtails.

Get a bite yourself at the restaurant, the Southern Tides Bar & Grill. Walking passes are $3/person and children under 5 are free. A single-day fishing pass is $12/person plus tax, and a three-day pass is $400 plus tax. Rod rentals are $15 per use, and you will have to return them in each time you leave the pier.
